This is how the story goes, and it is indeed a symphonic stroll through a landscape.
It's morning. A stroller, accompanied by his wife, his Algerian friends and his tape recorder, comes in from the desert. The air is silent, but the acoustics are inhabited. A Nomad tent appears between the dunes, and women weaving carpets invite him in for coffee. The walker resumes his journey and enters the city; since his role is to listen and wander, he wanders. Among other things, he visits the market, where the symphony of voices is organized and rhythms are sketched out.
It's afternoon. A man sees my microphones and spontaneously begins to sing a long, erotic melody. The crowd gathers, reacts, the party gets organized, several of them fetch their old rifles to accompany the singing. There's a wedding today. A drum orchestra bursts into the square, dancing and singing for hours.
It's evening. The women's youyou announces the arrival of the bride. A group of crouching old sages chant the Koran, beating the sand with their shoes, while beautiful young girls rhythmically sway their heads, making their magnificent hair fly back and forth.
It's nighttime. The orchestra disappears, dancing.

C’est le matin. Un promeneur accompagné de sa femme, de ses amis algériens et de son magnétophone, vient du désert. L’air est silencieux, mais l’acoustique est habitée. Une tente de Nomades apparaît entre les dunes, des femmes qui tissent un tapis l’invitent à prendre le café. Le promeneur reprend sa route et pénètre dans la ville ; puisque son rôle est d’écouter et de se promener il se promène. Il visite entre autres choses le marché où la symphonie des voix s’organise, des rythmes s’ébauchent.
C’est l’après-midi. Un homme voyant mes micros se met spontanément à chanter une longue mélopée érotique. La foule s’amasse, réagit, la fête s’organise, plusieurs sont allés chercher leur vieux fusil pour accompagner le chant. Il y a un mariage aujourd’hui. Un orchestre de tambours surgit sur la place, danse et chante pendant des heures.

Un groupe de vieux sages accroupis chantent le Coran en battant le sable de leurs chaussures, pendant que des jeunes filles très belles balancent rythmiquement leur tête en faisant voler d’avant en arrière leur magnifique chevelure.
C’est la nuit. L’orchestre y disparaît en dansant.
