This piece was composed using recordings made in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris and already used in the earlier work Entre Dames. Denis Dufour has brought together the body of a love letter and the evanescent and mysterious elements of an unexplained ceremony. Is that Armenian chant? Shameful antics hidden from the eyes of visitors, and reserved for forbidden lovers? Sacred fragrances scent the cooing and sighing behind the pillars’ cool shadows. Desire and tradition roll over one another. There are traces of reckless excitement in this fervent furor. A mad airfield of prayer. [Jérôme Nylon]
Cette pièce a été écrite avec des enregistrements captés dans la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris et déjà employés dans une œuvre précédente Entre dames. Denis Dufour y a marié le corps d’un texte amoureux avec les éléments [filants et mystérieux] d’une cérémonie qui ne nous est pas connue. Des chants arméniens ? Des jeux éhontés cachés des visiteurs guidés et réservés aux amoureux interdits ? Des effluves sacrés se mêlent aux gloussements et aux soupirs dans l’ombre fraîche des piliers. Désirs et tradition se culbutent. Il y a dans ce brouhaha fervent les traces d’une excitation désinvolte. Un aérodrome fou de la prière. [Jérôme Nylon]

With his morphological and expressive approach to sound, Denis Dufour works on pieces in a state of constant renewal, on ideas that are specific to each piece. The resultant work is like a large fresco in which no themes sound alike, one goes through varied and breathtaking soundscapes, appreciating the sheer imagination though the consistency of his style. By deliberately but effortlessly having his music open to all sounds, Denis Dufour’s approach is that of liberty, independence and diligence. His craftsmanship, very French, is exquisite and mastered; every second of sound is enveloped by a supra-conscious ear, so that his work contains no trace of automatic tools.
